Politics As Unusual of the Day: Think the bickering in Congress is bad? A lawmaker in South Korea hurled a tear gas canister at his ruling party rivals today because he was unhappy with the inevitable ratification of a trade agreement with the US.

Opposition members are unhappy with the language of the legislation, because they feel it gives the US the upper hand.

Making their dissatisfaction known, MPs nearly came to blows before Kim Seon-dong set off the tear gas, causing his colleagues to scramble for air.

He was “escorted” out by security guards, but, once outside, he and several other opposition members attempted to reenter the chamber in order to stop the vote.

The largest US free-trade pact since 1994’s NAFTA eventually passed the National Assembly  151 to 7, with most opposition lawmakers either abstaining of absent.
